Is it humanitarian?

I’ve just finished reading „My Africa” by Kinga Choszcz also known as Kinga Freespirit. She was a great traveller and a very brave woman with a great heart. However, when I was reading her book I used to wonder whether what she did on her way changed anything.

Let me give you a few examples. There was a skinny dog who ran away from people chasing him with the sticks. He would have probably ended up in their stomachs, previously beaten to death, if it was not for Kinga’s heart. She saved that little dog and took him under her own wings.

Later in Ghana, when Kinga found out about slave kids, she decided to buy out one of the girls, fund her new clothes, get her back to her family and then send the girl to school. Then she helped some other girls from the village to begin their education.

Well, I certainly do not negate Kinga’s action. Of course they have an extremely positive effect. I know, as well as Kinga knew that she would not save the whole world, but that is not a point. The problem is the same as in the Near East.

Should the Western civilization impose democracy on the nations that have not developed it by themselves? Because this is the way I think it should be done. Is it really good to interfere in other civilization because one (from the western world) thinks it is better for them? How do they know it?

Strange handshake

I have experienced something completely new. Something that does not happen on a daily basis. As a matter of fact, it shocked me to death, but on the other hand, cheered up immensely.

Bowling

My schoolmates invited me for bowling. We went to one of these big shopping malls in Warsaw. I have never played bowling before, so it was a kind of a new experience. Actually, the rules are pretty simple and the technique of pushing the bowl is not as difficult as I firstly thought. Anyway, two hours with those big, pretty heavy balls is too much for the first time. I was overexcited and, on the other hand, bored especially in the last few minutes of the game.

Tomorrow is my first day in school after long, holiday break. Welcome to the world of no-time and homework!

Kiedy się pisze na nieznany temat…

Miałem na dzisiaj napisać writing na angielski. Do wyboru było 5 tematów, z czego ja wybrałem artykuł na temat gwiazdy pop, filmowej lub sportowca, który jest najbardziej znany w naszym kraju i poza nim. Napisałem o Robercie Kubicy. A paradoksalnie dlatego, że ani o Kubicy, ani o Formule 1, ani o typowym polskim sporcie typu nożna, siatka, skoki czy F1 nie mam kompletnie pojęcia. Co jeszcze bardziej paradoksalne — przyszło mi to z ogromną łatwością i w niemal 30 minut miałem skończoną pracę.
